FAQ

Everything you want to know before getting started — and a few things you didn't know to ask.

Getting Started

Do I need to already be in shape to start working with you?
Not at all — that's exactly what I'm here for. I work with people at every fitness level, from complete beginners who've never set foot in a gym to experienced lifters who have hit a plateau. Wherever you're starting from, we'll build a program that meets you there and moves you forward.
How does the sign-up process work?
It's simple. Fill out the contact form with a little background on your goals and where you're at. I'll reach out within one business day to schedule a free introductory call so we can figure out whether we're a good fit and what kind of program makes the most sense for you. From there, I'll put together a plan and get you set up in the client portal.
Do you work with complete beginners?
Yes — and I genuinely enjoy it. Building a solid foundation early on is one of the most impactful things someone can do for their long-term health. Beginners are never behind; they just have more room to grow. I'll make sure you learn the movements correctly from day one so you stay injury-free and build real strength over time.
Can you work with me if I have injuries or physical limitations?
Yes. As an ACE Certified Personal Trainer, I'm trained to modify programming around injuries and limitations. I'll ask about any relevant history during our initial conversation and design your program accordingly. For anything medical, I always recommend working alongside your doctor or physical therapist — I'm part of the team, not a replacement for it.
Where are you located?
I'm based in Cottage Grove, Minnesota. In-person training is available in the greater Twin Cities area. Online and hybrid clients can train from anywhere — I work with people across the country.

Training

How many days a week will I need to train?
Most clients train 3–4 days per week, which tends to be the sweet spot for meaningful progress without burning out. That said, I build your program around your actual schedule — not the other way around. If you have 2 days a week to commit, we'll make the most of them. If you have 5, we'll fill them intelligently.
How long are training sessions?
Most in-person sessions run 45–60 minutes. Online programming is self-paced, but workouts are typically designed to be completed in 45–60 minutes as well. I don't pad sessions — every minute is purposeful.
What's the difference between in-person, online, and hybrid coaching?
In-person: We train together at the gym. I coach you through each session in real time — adjusting form, cueing movements, and tracking your performance firsthand.

Online: I write your programming and deliver it through the client portal. You train on your own schedule, log your workouts, and we stay connected through regular check-ins and messaging.

Hybrid: A mix of both — some sessions in person, the rest remote. Great for clients who want the depth of in-person coaching but also need flexibility in their week.

Not sure which is right for you? Let's talk it through.
Do I need a gym membership?
For in-person training, yes — we'll train at a gym together. For online coaching, it depends on what equipment you have access to. I can program for a fully equipped gym, a home gym with basic equipment, or anywhere in between. Just let me know what you're working with and I'll design around it.
How do you create my training program?
Every program starts with a conversation. I want to know your goals, your history, your schedule, your equipment, and anything that has or hasn't worked for you in the past. From there, I design a structured program using periodization principles — meaning your training is progressive over time, not just random workouts strung together. Programs are reviewed and adjusted regularly based on your progress and feedback.

Client Portal

What is the client portal?
The client portal is your personal hub for everything training-related. It's where your workout program lives, where you log sessions and progress, where you'll find your documents, and where you can message me directly. Everything is private and only visible to you and me. You can access it from any device through your browser — no app download required.
How do I log my workouts?
Your assigned workouts appear in the Workouts section of the portal. Open the workout, and you'll see every exercise with sets, reps, and coaching cues. As you complete each set, log the weight and reps directly in the portal. Your history builds up over time so we can both see your progress at a glance.
Can I message Adam directly?
Yes — the Messages section of the portal is a direct line to me. Use it for form questions, scheduling requests, feedback on your program, or anything else. I check messages daily on business days and aim to respond within 24 hours.
How do I track my progress?
The Progress section lets you log your weight, body measurements, and body fat percentage over time. You can also upload progress photos. Everything is shown as a chart over time so you can see trends — not just a number in isolation. Only you and I can see this data.
How do I view my workout schedule?
The Schedule section shows a calendar view of your assigned workouts. You can also use it to request session times if you're doing in-person or hybrid training. Any scheduled sessions or consultations will appear there.

Billing & Cancellations

How does billing work?
Invoices are sent through the client portal. You'll receive a notification when an invoice is ready, and you can view the details directly in the Billing section. Payment is handled directly with me — I'll walk you through the process when we get started.
Can I pause my membership?
Yes. Life happens — travel, illness, work crunch. Just message me and we'll figure out the best way to pause or adjust your program. I'd much rather work with you to find a solution than have you drop off entirely.
What is your cancellation policy?
For individual sessions, I ask for at least 24 hours' notice for cancellations. For ongoing packages, please give me at least two weeks' notice before ending the program so we can close things out properly and make sure you have everything you need to keep moving forward on your own.

Referrals

Do you have a referral program?
Yes! If you refer someone and they purchase a training package, you'll receive a free personal training session as a thank-you. The person you referred gets $50 off their first package. Existing clients can find their personal referral code or link in the client portal. There's no limit to how many people you can refer.
How does my referral get tracked?
Every client has a unique referral code in their portal. Share that code or your referral link with whoever you're referring — they enter it when they register or mention it when they reach out. Once they complete a package purchase, I'll reach out to schedule your free session.
